Formerly known as Winton branch, we meet up in the Park Hotel/Pub, Monton before all home matches, travel is arranged to the game and back, we then spend several hours while we sit and debate what we've just seen or till you fall asleep/fall over (whichever suits your personal preference!)
Our regular "committee"
meetings are held on the first Monday of every month in The Park
from 7.30 till we're done.
We have been established for about 8 years, in that time we have
raised in excess of £4000 for Francis House and other local
charities. At our peak we had around 300 members but this hit a
heavy decline, roughly when Stuart Pearce took over. Like the club,
we are only just recovering!
The change of name came about because it was suggested by some members that the old name of Winton branch was no longer appropriate due to the fact that we no longer meet in Winton. Now that we meet in The Park (pub that is not recreation ground!), perhaps we should be called Monton. Other members however didn’t think this was entirely appropriate either. Another suggestion was made of Eccles & District, this was seen to encompass both options.
We therefore took a vote of all who were present and the overwhelming result was that we become Eccles & District (It sounds posh according to Eamon!)
It needs to be said though, a big thanks to all those involved in what was Winton Branch who made it what it was. So Graham, Ronnie, Big Kev and Anne; the reputation of the branch is as it is due to your hard work, I hope we can now take the branch forward and do even bigger and better things… just like the club!
